Chris Forbes (Chairman and Independent Non-executive Director)

Chris is a barrister and a chartered accountant. He began his insurance career in 1981 working with Mark Loveday’s marine syndicate at Lloyd’s and he became a director of the Agency in 1984. Following a brief period working with John Charman, in 1992 he joined the D.P. Mann Agency (now Faraday) as finance director. In 1996 he became the  managing director. Having previously dealt with the issues surrounding Lloyds’ ‘Reconstruction and Renewal’ programme and negotiated the introduction of external capital to the business he ultimately, in 1998, led the sale of the Agency to Berkshire Hathaway. In 2000 he became a non-executive director of Faraday.

During his executive career Chris was a member of a number of Lloyd’s Boards and committees including Additional Securities Limited and the Lloyd’s North American Board from inception to its amalgamation with the Business Development Board in 2000.

In 2001 Chris joined the Board of Chaucer Syndicates Limited as Chairman and Chaucer Holdings plc as a non-executive director. Chaucer was, at that time, quoted on the London Stock Exchange. Also in 2001 Chris commenced working with the Aegis Managing Agency and in 2007 he became Vice Chairman.

In 2010 he became a non-executive director of Mitsui Sumitomo’s Lloyd’s Agency and he joined the Board of Amlin’s agency on its acquisition by Mitsui. From 2017 to 2018 he was a director of Capita Managing Agency and from 2018 to 2022 he was Chairman of River Thames Insurance Company and Mercantile Indemnity Company, both subsidiaries of the Enstar Group. From 2020 to 2022 he also chaired Enstar’s Lloyd’s Managing Agency.

After some forty-three years at Lloyd’s Chris is currently Chairman of Premia Managing Agency, Vice Chairman of Aegis Managing Agency and a member of the Boards of Dominion and Trent.
